Please read this book…and then ask yourself what you can do to help protect young women and girls from dishonour abuse. Please be part of a generation committed to stop these abhorrent practices against girls. Please then become an ambassador and help deliver a defiant call for change…Not in my name!
200 million women and girls have undergone FGM worldwide. In the UK, 137 thousand women are living with the consequences of ‘female circumcision’… with some 60 thousand more girls at risk. Globally, some 12 million girls are forced into early marriage every year. This, together with ‘virginity testing’ carried out on young girls, forms part of the physical, emotional, and economic suffering inflicted on women and girls thought to have ‘dishonoured’ their families. Their tormentors are usually men.
It must stop.
Freedom is a charity established to support survivors, raise awareness, and educate society about dishonour abuse. It provides educational material and teaching and training programmes for both schools and frontline professionals and runs a 24/7 helpline supported by trained professionals. It deserves our support and help.
But It’s Not Fair is a novel by Aneeta Prem, the Founder of the charity, and draws on her extensive experience supporting child victims of forced marriage and dishonour-based crimes through her work with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Government Ministers, the police, survivors, and her experiences as a magistrate.
The story is written from the view of a young British girl, whose friend almost becomes a victim of forced marriage. All young people, and everyone who has a daughter or son should read this novel.
